Copyright & Public Performance Rights

Q. What does it mean to buy a copyrighted DVD or VHS tape?
A. The owner of a copyrighted film has certain rights to the original work--including the right to authorize or prohibit reproduction, derivative works, distribution, and public performance, broadcast, or display of that work.

Learning Seed is the copyright owner for the videos we produce. That means that without special written permission, it is illegal for others, even those who buy a copy of the video, to make their own copies or show the video in a way that is not specifically authorized.

Q. What are "public performance" rights?
A. Learning Seed videos are sold with public performance rights. That means we give the buyer the right to play that video in a public gathering – such as in a classroom.
